Some of them are purposely made by the humans for different minerals and diamonds. Have look at some of most incredible holes around the globe. 1. Diavik Mine Country: Canada Location: 300 kilometers north of Yellowknife. It produces 8 million carats (3,500 lb) of diamonds per annum. The mine is so huge and the area so remote that it even has its own airport with a runway large enough to accommodate a boeing 737. 2. Great Blue Hole Country: Belize Location: About 60 miles away from Belize City. Great Blue hole has almost a perfect circular shape which made it very popular among tourists and it is believed to be the world’s largest sea-hole. It is 125 meters deep and 300 meters wide. It was created as a result of increase in sea level about 65,000 years ago. 3. Mirny Diamond Mine Country: Russia Location: Mirny, Siberia Mirny Diamond Mine holds the title of largest open diamond mine in the world. The mine is 525 meters deep and has a diameter of 1,200 m. The airspace above the mine is closed for helicopters because of a few incidents in which they were sucked in by the downward air flow. 4. Bingham Canyon Mine Country: United States Location: Salt Lake City, Utah Bingham Canyon Mine is the largest man-made excavation on earth. The mine is 2.5 miles long, and 0.75 miles deep. Presently, mining operations continue at full-swing in the mine, and it is now the largest open-pit mine in the world. 5. Kimberley Big Hole Country: South Africa Location: Kimberley Kimberley is the home of De Beers Consolidated Diamond Mines, one of the world’s richest diamond mines, and it is still considered to be the capital of the world’s diamond industry. 6. The Burning Gates Country: Turkmenistan Location: In the heart of the Karakum desert of Turkmenistan. The Burning Gates give off a glow that can be seen from miles away during the dark night. It is a result of a Soviet gas exploration accident which occuried in the 1950’s. It was created when a Soviet drilling rig was drilling for natural gas and fell into an underground cavern resulting in a crater. It measures 60 meters in diameter and 20 meters deep. 7. Chuquicamata Country: Chile Location: In the north of Chile, 215 km northeast of Antofagasta and 1,240 km north of the capital, Santiago. Chuquicamata is an open pit copper mine in Chile. It is the mine with the largest total production of copper in the world. The mine is over 850 meters deep. 8. Udachnaya Pipe Country: Russia Location: Sakha Republic The Udachnaya Pipe is a diamond mine discovered in 1955 in Russia. It is more than 600 meters deep.
